Hello, I am Asher Manalip, I am 13 years old and go to Rossmoyne SeniorHigh School. As you can tell, I am grading for a 1st degree black belt. I have been doing Karate for almost a decade now and I have come so far from when I started. Throughout the time I have been training, I have seen many people start and never make it all the way to where I am today, this encourages me to be persistent to show others that I am a determined person. I am currently learning parkour over in Bassendean, and I think that karate and parkour is a good combo. I am hoping to continue doing both activities for a long time.
When I first walked in here, I thought that I would be able to fight anyone as soon as I left, but throughout the years I have been here, Karate has taught me that I should never start fights but run away from them. It has also taught me discipline, like whenever someone works me up, I have learnt to just walk away instead of resolving things by fighting them.
Growing up here, I have made many new friends that I would not have if I just didn’t come here. They have helped me so much in the past year to push me to where I am today. They would always pressure me whenever I needed it and would cheer me up if I had a difficult day at school. Karate has also taught me responsibility and respect. I always used to forget my lunch going to school, but since I started Karate, I needed to bring my equipment in my bag and doing that every day made it so that I I barely forget anything now.
Once again, thank you to everyone who has helped me on this journey for a black belt, I cannot express how thankful I am for my instructors and for everyone listening.
Thank you,
